Momostenango & Colonial Churches
Leaving from: Quetzaltenango

The best days to visit this town located 25 km from Quetzaltenango are on Wednesdays and Sundays, the main market days. Here you will find the famous woolen sheets and other woolen products. Because of this, Momostenango is a popular place to visit.

Momostenango is also noted for its adherence to the ancient Mayan calendar and for its observance of traditional rites.
We continue to San Andres Xécul. This yellow church is probably the most famous church in Central America. We also visit a place where you can see how the local materials are painted which are used for typical weaving. We also visit a Mayan altar and San Simón (Maximón, a local Maya Saint).

In San Cristóbal Totonicapán we will visit the church and the next door “Monasterio” as well as the place where indigenous women do their laundry, standing with their feet in the water. We end our tour in Salcajá where we visit a local family who makes "Caldo de frutas", a local drink in Guatemala.

Our tour ends back in Quetzaltenango.
