Description:

The Chicabal Volcano Hike starts at the town of San Martín Sacatepéquez (San Martín Chile Verde), 45 minutes away from Quetzaltenango.
​
2 ½ hours hiking up through nature we arrive to the crater which is actually the Chicabal Lagoon where you can see Mayan Altars around the lake. We will stay here for about one hour enjoying the wonderful views and a close look to the Mayan culture. Later our hike down will take about 45 minutes.

Chicabal has a well formed cone and is heavily forested. In the center of the large crater at an elevation of 2,712m (8,898 ft), lies a lake with a diameter f 500m (1640 ft). This site is often used by the local Mayas to practice mayan rituals.
